# Versioning

> There is one API version at a time. Always use the current one.

The Quoin Property API has **one live version: v4**. Everything on this site describes it.

<Warning>
  Older versions (v1, v2, v3) are retired. Any `/api/v1`, `/api/v2` or `/api/v3` request returns `410 version_retired`. Ignore examples elsewhere on the web that use them.
</Warning>

## Always-current URLs

These URLs never change and always describe the current version, so tools and agents that use them move to a new version automatically:

| URL | What it is |
| - | - |
| `https://docs.quoindata.com` | These docs |
| `https://docs.quoindata.com/llms-full.txt` | These docs as one plain-text file |
| `https://portal.quoindata.com/api/openapi.json` | OpenAPI spec of the current version |
| `https://portal.quoindata.com/agent-setup/SKILL.md` | Instructions for coding agents |
| `https://portal.quoindata.com/llms.txt` | Index of the above |

Request paths include the version (`/api/v4/...`) so a running integration never changes behaviour under you.

## Retired versions

A call to a retired version returns:

```json theme={null}
{
  "status": "error",
  "error": {
    "code": "version_retired",
    "retryable": false,
    "message": "API v3 is retired. Use v4: https://portal.quoindata.com/api/v4 (docs: https://docs.quoindata.com)."
  },
  "current_version": "v4"
}
```

Read `current_version` and move to it. Retired calls are never charged.

## New versions

A new version replaces the old one in a single release: these docs, the OpenAPI spec and the agent instructions switch to it at the same time, and the release is listed in the [Changelog](/changelog). Within a version, changes are additive only: new endpoints, optional parameters and response fields.
